Myranda Bair
It would seem that in artist Myranda Bair’s view a clean, white, utilitarian pizza box is a perfect blank canvas for art. Her response to such an opportunity was to enlist the talents of Rushville children to give new meaning to the idea of Take Out. On July 16, the nationally famous, local pizza pub, the Twisted Turtle, opened its door to some twenty five young artists. Myranda was ready for them, having filled long tables with crayons, pencils and stacks of drawing paper She put no restrictions on their designs, an approach that resulted in a flurry of creativity, interrupted only by occasional breaks for pizza, generously provided by Twisted Turtle owners Tosha and Courtney Fuller. Myranda has since collated the stories using them to tell charming stories on both large and small boxes. One stick figure who is seen in the Sandhills jumping for joy seems to speak for all the artists as she exclaims, “Yay! Pizza!
This project is sponsored by the Sandhills Institute and is part of a larger exhibition called Art aRound Town (Aug-Sep 2024).
